The causes we find, in order
Fixings pulled out of plaster
Shelves and TV brackets take a cone of plaster with them when they come off the wall. The hole is filled in two passes so it does not sink, then sanded flat before priming.
Hairline cracking at corners
Cracks at door and window heads are movement, so filler alone reopens within months. We rake the crack out and bridge it before filling, which is what stops it returning.
Patch flashing through the topcoat
Filler absorbs paint differently to the wall around it, so an unprimed patch shows as a dull halo. Priming the repair first is what makes it disappear.
Colour drifted from the original
Walls fade and the original tin no longer matches even if you still have it. We colour-match from a sample off your wall rather than assuming the paint code is still right.

Can you match my existing wall colour?
We match from a sample taken off the wall rather than a paint code, because the wall has aged. Where the wall has faded badly, a full wall rather than a patch is the honest answer and we will say so.
Is it worth doing a patch or should I paint the whole wall?
Patches work well on textured and mid-tone walls. On a flat dark colour or a wall in strong daylight, the corner-to-corner repaint is usually the only thing that will look right.
